Ryanair Airport Guide – Carcassonne Airport

by admin on March 6, 2010

Full Name: Carcassonne Salvaza Airport

IATA Code: CCF

Address: Aéroport de Carcassonne en Pays Cathare
11000 CARCASSONNE

Terminal Guide: Here

Distance From City: 3km

Day Trip Possible: No

Overview: An airport which Ryanair enjoys 100% of the scheduled traffic at, enjoying a good position although barely 50km from both Beziers and Tolouse, 100km from Montpellier and under 200km from Barcelona. That said, despite the fierce competition, Ryanair have chosen to increase flights further here, probably as a result of gaining monopoly status. In recent times the routes have grown here from just Stansted to mainly British and Irish airports, possibly reflecting the clientele.

Getting there:
Carcassonne is really close to the town centre at only a few kilometres away. There is a shuttle bus which makes several stops on the way, terminating at the SNCF station. The bus only runs in accordance to the flights, so be sure not to miss it. Car hire and taxi services are also available at the airport.

General Tips: Thankfully, the increase in the range of destinations has seen an expansion in the airport terminal and things are much newer. That said, it would be better not to spend too much time at the airport as there are very few in the way of shops; after security there is nothing apart from a potentially uncomfortable wait (if you have a crowded flight). Queues should not be an issue as the schedules are such that only one flight is dealt with at one time. That said, there is a pleasant restaurant on the upper floors with views of the runway although perhaps not the best place if are into viewing jets, with only light aircraft doing the rounds.

Budget Travellers Guide: A good selection because of the cheap onward travel, although it should be noted that London services are less than once daily and for other destinations, may only be once or twice  a week. If you are after something quicker, you might want to try the nearby Montpellier airport which has a far bigger range of destinations and airlines. Carcassonne is generally not in the sales that I have seen but has a really good range of UK connections, flying to Cork, Dublin, East Midlands, Prestwick, Liverpool, Leeds-Bradford and Stansted. Brussels’ Charleroi airport is the only European destination available from here.
