Overview: Having started the decade as a smaller regional airport, the arrival of Easyjet and Ryanair has really transformed the fortunes of Bristol. Now taking close to 7 million passengers a year, it was awarded the accolade of direct flights to New York by Continental, paying tribute to it’s catchment area and also getting one over on the likes of Cardiff and Bournemouth. Despite this, the airport is in clear need of an overhaul, with the absence of airwalks perhaps holding things back. Plans are in the offing but face considerable resistance from the locals. Plenty of upside potential here with many major hubs in Europe going unserved but it’s fair to say things are operating almost at capacity.

General Tips: Bristol is well accessible by a variety of routes. The coach service serves both main bus and rail stations, with journey times around 30 mins, cost £9 return. You can also use a taxi or hire a car to get to the airport but bear in mind that the parking is rather expensive.
If you wish to use other destinations, this must be done via the main bus station. Passenger numbers have increased rapidly here and the effect of this is obvious. During peak times there will be large queues for security; the lack of airwalks also give this a rather disorganised feel. That said, there are plenty of shops and eateries – after security is much better.

Budget Travellers Guide:  Bristol seems to be a good battleground between Ryanair and Easyjet and as a result good fares from here are quite common. Dublin is well served with three daily flights and also be aware on the routes where there is competition; Barcelona, Milan, Malaga, Palma and Tenerfie. Don’t ignore the connections from other airlines either – KLM and Air France both have flights from here too. The relative cheapness of transport here also makes this a good budget place to visit.
