Address: Brest Airport Guipavas, Brest, Bretagne, France
Distance from City: 10km
Day Trip Possible: No
Terminal Guide: Here
Overview: Recently refurbished at quite a reasonable cost of over 50m Euro, Brest nonetheless offers a glimpse into a regional airport of the future. The terminal building, cunningly shaped like a wing offers a smooth transition throughout, complete with similar glass frontage that you might see in other main airports. Despite this, the airport rarely gets busy off-peak with only a handful of flights per day. It’s only during the summer months when the charters arrive that things start happening.
Getting there: The distance to Brest is not too far at 10km and there is a shuttle bus which takes you all the way to the bus station in Brest, taking about 15 minutes for the journey. There is also the taxi and car hire options available at the airport.
General Tips: The airport rarely gets busy so no need to arrive early, but if you do, there’s still something to do with the great views afforded by the gallery. Clearly the terminal was built to be handling more passengers so, you’ll find it pretty spacious inside. There is a rather large general store (like WHSmith) in the main terminal of the airport which sells a wide range of goods as well as a clothes shop. Behind security there are smaller versions with the obligatory duty-free shop. Do take a look at the restaurant-bar including the tapas-style Terre et Mer.
Budget Travellers Guide: Ryanair fly here three times a week from Luton so, it’s not too bad for a getaway, considering that the bus to town costs about 5 euros one way. The airport is quite decently positioned too. It’s close to the beaches and also faces little competition in this part of Brittany. Flybe also run flights in the summer if you need to connect to another UK city.
