Ryanair Airport Guide – Bremen Airport

by admin on January 6, 2010

Full Name: Bremen Airport

IATA Code: BRE

Address: Flughafen Bremen GmbH
Flughafenallee 20
28199 Bremen

Terminal Plan: Here

Distance from City: 3.5km

Day Trip Possible: Yes

Passenger Numbers: 2,400,000 (2008)

Closest Alternatives: Hamburg

Overview: Possibly one of the closest airport-city combos in Germany and even in Europe, Bremen is a well thought-out airport. From the interior with shops and offices on a mezzanine level to the tram stop just outside, you’ll be out of here fast. The modern terminal has now been augumented with a low-cost one (called Terminal E), which is pretty sparse in comparison. That sad, it’s probably been worth it as Ryanair now operate to a wide range of destinations from here.

Getting there: A quick 11-minute ride in tram 6 is all it needs to get to town, and is all the more impressive considering that the tram stops numerous times on the way to the city. With the time to next tram displayed at each tram stop, this is a wonderfully efficient system. You can buy a ticket on the tram or the tourist office-type desk at the airport. Taxi fare is pretty cheap and quick, or you could hire a car. Should you not wish to visit Bremen you can get to Gronigen or Hamburg via coach from here. To be quite honest, it’s only slightly more difficult to get to Hamburg from here than it is from the Ryanair Lubeck airport.

General Tips: All Ryanair flights leave from Terminal E but you’d be an idiot to go in there too early, a very cold space with a singular coffee bar, duty-free shop. Passport control is not until right at the front of the gate, so it’s brainless to go in, because you’ll be stuck in the holding pen without access to shops or toilets. In contrast the main terminal is well-lit, spacious and also has plenty of seating and numerous shops. On the upper levels there is a museum which may or may not be open, as well as a large restaurant. There is a bakery downstairs, and the preztels are recommended.

Budget Travellers Guide: Bremen ticks a load of boxes; cheap flights, cheap to get to town and a very picturesque city to walk around in, especially in the Winter when the Christmas markets are in force. Connections are very good from here to many main Ryanair bases but only Stansted , Liverpool and Edinburgh from the UK. Lufthansa also provide a good internal service to Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. Surprisingly, no Easyjet presence here as yet.
