Ryanair Airport Guide – Angoulême Airport

by admin on October 20, 2009

Full Name: Angoulême Airport

IATA Code:  ANG

Address: Aeroport Angouleme-Cognac,
16430 Champniers

Terminal Plan: Here

Distance from City: 16km

Day Trip Possible:  No

Overview: Set in the middle of countryside, Angouleme has the distinction of being one of the smallest airports Ryanair serves – the only international service being the one to Lond0n-Stansted. As this only leaves three times a week, this makes the airport smaller than others such as Dinard (which has a daily service). This is reflected in the airport facade, with no real investments required and many of the staff being part-time only. It is not really an understatement to say that there are better facilities in the larger flying schools.

Getting there: London-Stansted is the only way to access this; and even then the route is seasonal: only between March and October. Despite this, there are buses between the airport, Angloueme and Cognac to coincide with the flights. More viable options for a bigger group of people are car rental and taxi hire. A good proportion of people will be using these options.

General tips: With an airport of this size, making decisions becomes very simple and you are unlikely to experience any delays unless there is a problem with the incoming flight. Particularly on the weekdays outside the summer holiday months, load factors tend to be low and there are no real issues with queues.  As you can guess; do your shopping and eating before you get to the airport; there is a cafe there and also a small shop in departures but little other choices. If you are reliant on a bus to get you to the airport, do not miss it as there is only one.

Budget Travellers Guide: With competing airports such as La Rochelle and Bordeaux, Poitiers and Limoges relatively closeby, this route may get the chop in subsequent years. There is no day trip possible, however a short cheap trip is certainly doable if you are willing to match the flight times. Certainly if you have your own transport there are many places in range of Angloueme that you can visit.
