Northern Ireland

Day Trip possible: Yes
Overview: More of a typical Ryanair airport – a secondary airport that has undergone some good upgrades to accomodate more passengers. Despite this, Flybe is the main operator here with Ryanair arriving opening a base here quite recently. Belfast has two airports – so don’t get confused with the international one. This compact airport offers under 30 routes with most of them regional and low-cost.
Getting there: Around 3 miles from Belfast, it is really quick and easy to reach the city – approximately a 15-20 minute drive. Bus is the best way, with plentiful services, you should not be waiting too long for one. There is also a train link to the town but not really time efficient due to the long walk unless you’re wanting to take the train to somewhere else.
General tips: As this is a small airport, there isn’t really much in the way of queues. That said, it is a pleasant and bright terminal. The escalator upstairs leads to a cafe-restaurant type place that offers great views of the runway. There is the usual newsagents and tourist information downstairs. Airside, there are a few shops and places to eat but if there are several flights leaving at the same time, it can get a bit crowded in this area.
Budget Travellers Guide: A great airport owing to the proximity of the town. On leaving the airport, you can get local buses (the bus stop is just to the left) which take you to the bus station. From there, it is a real short walk to the train station and all the shops. Last flight to London leaves quite early, but the closeness means there is a lot of time to get sightseeing done.
