Thought I would update that Ryanair are offering free flights again.
For those who can’t seem to bring up the cheap flights, here is my advice:
1) Get the electron card: This is more important than ever as the fees have gone up for any other card.
2) Read the terms and conditions: For this offer, it states on the website:
Booking Period: Wed 11th Feb 09 – Sun 15th Feb 09
Travel Period: Wed 25th Feb 09 – Thu 30th Apr 09
Applicable Days: after 12pm Mon all day Tues/Wed after 12pm Thurs after 12pm Sat
Subject To Availability
Flight must be purchased: 14 Days in advance
Blackout Period: 12th Mar ’09 – 18th Mar ’09 to/from Ireland
03rd Apr ’09 – 19th Apr ’09 all other routes
Notes on this fare: All Holidays, School Breaks and Major Sporting Events are excluded from this offer
What does this mean?
Basically, you can only fly out on the dates between Feb 25 – Apr 30. And then, only on flights on Monday (after 12pm), Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (after 12pm) and Saturday, (after 12pm). If you go for outside these times, then you will be shown the standard fare and taxes – which isn’t worth it, in my opinion.
The blackout period means that the special fares won’t apply either. This is due to half term, or Easter holidays when the planes are full anyway, so Ryanair don’t need to run the promo. Major Sporting Events basically means a football match, but you don’t really have to worry about it. I mean, if your booking says 1p at the end, that’s all you have to pay.
I’ve often found that not all fares from special offers are snapped up. So, you’ll find these ‘free’ fares floating around on the system even outside of fare periods. But, this is the exception rather than the norm. But, the earlier you get in after the sale has been announced, the greater your chances of getting the flights that you want.
3): Daytripping: The following destinations are covered from London Stansted (which has the biggest selection):
Basel, Belfast (City), Billund, Bremen, Cork ,Derry, Dublin, Düsseldorf-Weeze, Frankfurt-Hahn, Friedrichshafen, Gdañsk, Glasgow, Grenoble-Lyon, Hamburg-Lübeck, Haugesund, Kerry, Knock, Marseille MP2, Nantes, Newquay, Oslo (Torp), Shannon, Stockholm, Szczecin, Zweibrücken
Of which, the following can be daytripped (early flight out, late flight back):
Belfast, Bremen, Cork, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Friedrichshafen, Glasgow, Marseille, Oslo, Shannon, Stockholm (must depart from Vasteras).
If you’re travelling from another airport in the UK, other main hubs such as Milan and Barcelona are pretty well serviced. Wednesday is a good day for this.
4): Take off all the add-ons: Some things may be selected for you already, remember to remove priority boarding, luggage, etc.
Good luck with finding those flights!
